Project Name: Grain Extraction Training
Project summary and highlights:
Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) conducted the training and provided their grain extraction training trailer. There were 19 firefighters from 7 of 15 firehalls that participated. Those that attended, found the training very beneficial. Each participant had the experience of being trapped in the grain. Many found that very beneficial to help them understand what the victim is experiencing in a similar situation.
How were funds used, any partner contributions besides the Federation?
Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) conducted the training and provided their grain extraction training trailer. Since this event was not open to the public, we only promoted it to the various fire stations.
Describe lasting and relevant impact to the OFA membership.
The impact to the membership is now having the hands-on training for the firefighters. Many firehalls do grain extraction training but use a dummy as the victim. Also, the firehalls are considering upgrading their own extraction equipment. This in turn will help our members should there ever be a need for such training.
