Project Name: Harvest Success: Member Appreciation and Education
Project summary and highlights:
The Project expanded since the initial application to include a bus tour on the second day, which was hosted and paid by the OSCIA. The previous day Leeds County Federations portion of the event included displays, a panel discussion, demonstrations, a kid’s zone, and presentation of the Leeds County Federation of Agriculture farm family award. This day was organized to show our appreciation of our OFA members for their continued support of OFA and to provide educational resources and insights to help our membership enhance their agricultural business. This day also provided networking opportunities and a day of fun and relaxation for the entire family. Clint Cameron, our OFA zone 11 director was in attendance for all the events. Several speakers and politicians (including John Jordan, the PA for the Minister of Agriculture) also attended.
Partnering Organizations:
Organizations and groups contributed in-kind to the event. OMAFRA and Algonquin college provided nonfinancial support in terms of speakers. A variety of commodity organizations (beekeepers, maple syrup, dairy producer committee, beef, sheep, eggs, GFO, etc.) had displays set up and provide demonstrations. As well, other local community organizations (ie. Big brothers and sisters, health unit) provided items like the smoothie bike for the kid’s zone. The smoothie bike is a bike which has a mini blender hooked up to it. Ingredients for a smoothie (yogurt, fruit, ice) is included in the blender and kids pedal the bike to mix the ingredients. This is a big hit at other events. High school students were on hand to assist with the smoothie bike.
Lasting and relevant impact to the OFA membership.
The LCFA Membership Appreciation and Education day was received well. It provides a sense of community amongst members and an opportunity to network with others to chat and learn about each others operation and an opportunity to learn from industry leaders. Building connections within the agricultural community for long lasting and relevant positive impact on the community. To recognize farm families who have made an impact in the community by providing an award for their leadership and community engagement. Lastly, farmers work hard, this day provided a fun and relaxing day for our membership.
