Farm Safety Awareness on Roads in Huron
The Federation of Agriculture in Huron County (HCFA) is prioritizing Slowing Moving Vehicle Sign replacements and refreshing on wagons and harvest equipment as a road safety initiative for the agricultural community.
The plan includes sourcing both Mounted Slow Moving Vehicle signs and Adhesive SMV signs from local stores and if needed local Co-operatives or Dealerships. Ideally, signage will be reflective, and at a reduced rate due to volume and will allow for partnership recognition.
HCFA is collaborating with local grain elevators throughout Huron during harvest in 2021 (September -December pending supplies). Posters will encourage proper SMV sign usage and recognize the funding from HCFA and OFA, and local supplier partners. This would be in combination with communication with elevator staff regarding placement, and proper installation to install up to 950 new SMV signs on wagons or equipment with missing or faded SMV signs.
As available, local elevator operators will watch for equipment needing attention when they are delivering grain. On equipment that is identified, either a staff member will install a complimentary SMV sign or provide the driver with a sign and instruction sheet regarding placement and recognizing the provider of the signs.
Throughout the project information and photos of best practices and replacements will be posted on HCFA’s Facebook and Twitter feeds, with possible inclusion in Rural Voice magazine, and Huron’s Annual Ag Review Paper.
