Hastings Safety and Crop Awareness Sign Project
Hastings County is the second-largest county in Ontario, stretching almost 160 kilometres from the Bay of Quinte to Algonquin Park covering over 5,000 km2. It is comprised of 16 member municipalities. Coupled with the size of the County, providing outreach to widely dispersed membership numbers presents certain financial and logistical challenges in providing programs and services.
Road Safety
Erect signs on farm properties on busy county roads with messaging focused ‘active farming area’ to educate drivers and encourage respect and safe practices around farm equipment on the roads. Signs will bear both the Hastings Federation of Agriculture (HFA) and OFA logo.
Crop Awareness Signs
Visually identify the crop growing in the field to increase the local food awareness, featuring HFA and OFA logos.
Emily 911 Identification of Farm Properties
HFA will reimburse members who apply for civic address markers as part of the ‘Emily 911 Project’ for their vacant farm properties. This will encourage an increase in the number of 911 signs being erected, and increase access and response time to emergencies in farmer’s fields.
