Project Name: Farm Health and Safety – First Aid Course
Project summary and highlights:
Farmers were provided with emergency First Aid CPR C & AED: 1 day, basic first aid, learn to perform CPR on adults and children, AED Training. It was held at the Toledo Fire Hall. The purpose of this training was to provide farmers in our community the resources and knowledge on what to do in an emergency. Many of our farmers are also volunteers on other community, commodity, and other organizations (fair boards, 4-H, etc.). It is great benefit to have more farmers trained for any emergency. Overall, a major benefit for the local community. A bonus to the day was to have the deputy fire chief explain the “what3words” app and how important this app is to emergency departments to find a farmer in distress if they are not located at their actual address. This is a global app which 911 recognizes. So, another beneficial feature to the day.
Describe lasting and relevant impact to the OFA membership.
First Aid Training – the lasting impacts by offering emergency first aid CPR and an AED course to our members and farmers in our community are far reaching. This training will allow more community members trained to respond to an emergency both on and off the farm. As many farmers are also involved in other organizations as volunteers (4H, fair boards, commodity organizations, etc.) this training will benefit different groups and events that are held throughout the years by having more emergency trained farmers/volunteers available. As well, the information and knowledge of the “what3words” app will also be beneficial and helpful in an emergency.
Bonus – any lessons learned, or surprises?
The bonus addition of having the deputy fire chief making the “what3words” app.
