This week, in conjunction with the Oxford Children’s Water Festival, OFA team members Laura Fraser and Kaylee Coverdale took students of the Thames Valley District School Board for a virtual tour of Elarda Farms with hosts Gerrit and Kaitlan Van Wely.
Students learned all about dairy farming, including what the cows eat, how they access to water, their bedding, the purpose of ear tags, how they’re milked and how to identify local dairy products at the grocery store. The students even got to meet newborn twins!
Thank you to the Van Wely’s for welcoming over 45 classes of students virtually to their farm and teaching them all about Ontario dairy.
The Oxford Children’s Water Festival is hosting an in-person community event Saturday, June 11 at Pittock Conservation area. Team OFA will be there educating attendees on the importance of water for livestock with our Moos Thirsty activity station.
