The Ontario’s On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) is a new cost-share funding program for farmers to support the adoption and implementation of new best management practices (BMPs) that reduce greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions and increase soil carbon sequestration. Cost-share support to farmers is available specifically for:
- Cover Cropping – cost share funding of 65% up to $20,000
- Nitrogen Management – cost share funding of 65% up to $30,000
- Rotational Grazing Systems – cost share funding of 65% up to $20,000
It’s important to note that all project categories have an eligible project start date (invoice date) of February 15th, 2022.
In Ontario, OFCAF is being delivered to farmers by the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) through funding provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC). Full details on how to apply, including a Program Guide that provides eligibility criteria, project category information, application assessment criteria, and the Enrolment and Application Forms are available from OSCIA.
Applications will only be accepted during intake dates with the first round starting August 3, 2022 at 12:00 a.m. and closing August 17, 2022 at 11:59 p.m.
As other application intake dates are confirmed, they will be made available on OSCIA’s website. The program will be open until March 31, 2024. If you would like to stay up-to-date on OFCAF opportunities, you can sign up for email alerts of updates and program launches.
Under OFCAF, farmers must attend a Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE) to receive a cost-share payment for completing a project. KSEs are networking opportunities where producers learn from the latest research, first-hand experience from their peers and industry experts, and access resources that support the long-term implementation of BMPs.
