Last week, OFA President Peggy Brekveld travelled to Ottawa to meet with federal elected officials and to address members of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food and industry stakeholders regarding Bill C-234 – an Act to amend the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act (GPPA).
During the discussion, OFA voiced its strong support for amendments to the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act and the immediate positive impacts it will have on Canadian farmers. The fuel surcharge has placed a significant and disproportionate financial burden on many farmers across Canada. With these amendments, farm businesses will benefit greatly from expanding the list of qualifying farm fuels to include natural gas and propane, as well as modifying the definition of eligible farming machinery to allow those fuels to be used to provide heat to dry grain and raise or house livestock.
