On September 9, the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) will be hosting a National Agriculture Leaders’ Debate, exclusively by Food, Health & Consumer Products of Canada. This event will have voices from the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, as well as the Agriculture Critics from each national party, to debate questions that focus on the priority issues for Canadian farmers.
Pre-pandemic, Canada’s Agriculture and Agri-Food sector employed 2.3 million Canadians; that’s 1 in 8 jobs, making it the second largest employer in the country. Contributing over $140B in GDP each year, the sector is a critical component of the national economy. As a truly essential service, agriculture is ready to hit the ground running and act as a powerful economic engine for Canada’s recovery. Not only that, agriculture is also a natural climate solutions provider, with incredible potential in the fight against climate change.
CFA’s 2021 National Agriculture Leaders’ Debate Participants:
- NDP – MP Alistair MacGregor, Critic for Agriculture and Agri-Food
- CPC – MP Dave Epp
- BQ – MP Yves Perron, Critic for Agriculture and Agri-Food
