Thunder Bay Commodity Video Production project
In February 2021, the idea of producing agricultural videos was brought to our attention by a new board member. The board member was an elementary educator and identified an opportunity to provide relevant material to teach the agricultural basics such as, “where does the food come from?”
The board is partnering with the Lakehead Board of Education to make it available for educational purposes. The videos will be a 5-part series capturing the various seasons in agriculture, with content geared for grades 3-7. For example: Beef and Dairy will have 2 separate videos capturing 2 seasons, horticulture will have only 1 video, starting in Fall 2021 and concluding in May 2022.
The series is being produced by a local videographer company to capture the footage of everyday life in agriculture, targeting the 3 main commodities in our area, Dairy, Beef and Horticulture. The local videographers are sincerely interested in the project and are excited to work with the agricultural community. We will be capturing the footage of various seasonal tasks, such as planting harvesting, calving season, the daily feeding and milking chores.
Prior to Covid Thunder Bay Federation of Agriculture was heavily involved in educational farm tours in the area. However, due to COVID-19 that has not been possible. As most education is virtual and online this would be a prime opportunity for TBFA to bring the farm life to the virtual classroom.
The video will create visibility for farm members, TBFA and OFA and while it is targeted towards classroom educational material, the footage will also be used for future projects and content that can be shared on the website and the social media platforms.
