Project summary and highlights:
SCFA hosted three first aid courses over the winter months to ensure farms had at least one individual with an up to date First Aid and CPR course on site. Taking a first aid and CPR course increasing a person’s knowledge and confidence to set-up and help in emergency situations. Ours benefited from small class sizes allowing for
Use of funds and partner contributions besides the Federation:
The funds were used to cover the cost of the first aid courses. We chose to run farmer specific courses with just our members attending so that the scenarios would be relevant to situations our farmers may come across. Each participant also paid $50 each to secure their spot and to guarantee their attendance.
Lasting and relevant impact to the OFA membership.:
The lasting impacts of offering first aid courses to the farmers in our community is that we will have more community members trained to respond to emergencies both on and off the farm. As many of our farmers are also volunteers for our various events throughout the year (Keep Kids Safe, Farms feed Families, the summer BBQ ad well as many of our one-off events) this ensures that we have CPR and AED trained volunteers at all our events in the case of an emergency. Many of our farmers also volunteer for many other organizations in our county including fair boards, 4-H clubs, and commodity organizations. This allows those groups to also benefit from having first aid trained volunteers.
