Lasting and relevant impact to the OFA membership
There were three areas in the Simcoe County region where there was no or very little weather station data. By placing the weather stations one in each of these areas Oro, Springwater, and Essa Townships, members across the region benefit from a more detailed local forecast. In addition, governing bodies are asking for more data from farmers to support their operations, as was seen with the fertilizer tariff in 2022, the weather stations will give the OFA members in our county better access to weather conditions in their area and therefore they will be able to be more efficient in their use of products. The platform that the farmers will be able to access will give them current data as well as historical data about their fields and when the optimum time to use various products and plant or harvest, maximizing their potential.
Lasting and relevant impacts to greater community
Farmers across Simcoe County will have access to free locally sourced weather data to assist them in their daily decision-making processes. From the application of fertilizers and crop protection products to the harvesting and storage of crops this data will be valuable and a unique resource for farmers in the county.
Partner organizations
We partnered with FS partners to place a weather station on their properties, one in Elmvale and one in Alliston. FS Partners also informed and promoted the weather stations and associated programs to their customers. The last one will be placed on a local farmer’s land in Oro Station.
