Ontario farm leaders and OFA representatives travelled to Whitehorse, Yukon this week to participate in meetings with federal, provincial and territorial Ministers of Agriculture. The annual event provides an opportunity to engage farm leaders and government leaders from coast to coast in conversations about issues, policies and priorities impacting the agricultural industry.
It serves as a valuable opportunity to meet with Ministers across the country as well as to reconnect with Hon. Rob Flack, Ontario’s Minister of Farming, Agriculture, and Agribusiness.
OFA leaders met with agricultural leaders from across the country and discussed collaborative advocacy opportunities such as energy supply, trade opportunities, drainage, railway crossings, sustainable agriculture strategy, capital gains and carbon tax.
Additionally, the attendees were taken on a farm tour showcasing different operations and products that the Yukon had to offer.
OFA President Drew Spoelstra shared that it’s “invaluable to gather the whole industry from all corners of Canadian agriculture. There was representation from every sector including greenhouse, turkey, sheep, beef, dairy, and equine. We are all facing similar challenges, but also opportunities and can work together to accomplish our goals.”
Thank you to the Canadian Federation of Agriculture for hosting such an engaging and impactful meeting.
