OFA was pleased to bring forward a resolution at the recent Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) annual meeting regarding the need to lobby for the implementation of initiatives outlined in the Barton Report (Economic Growth Report).
Therefore, be it resolved:
That the CFA lobby the Canadian government to implement the initiatives outlined in the Barton Report including :1) Attracting the talent Canada needs through immigration, 2) Positioning Canada as a Global Trading Hub, 3) Unlocking innovation to drive sales and growth, so that Canada may become the 2nd largest exporter of agricultural products in the world, thus increasing agricultures contributions to Canada’s GDP.
OFA is happy to announce that the resolution passed with 92% of voting delegates in favour.
The Barton Report, released in 2017, clearly identifies the agri-food industry as one of the key sectors to drive growth and create jobs. We believe that with increased lobbying efforts and support through CFA, Canada has the potential to become the 2nd largest exporter of agricultural products, globally. As a result, this can increase agriculture’s economic contributions to our country’s GDP.
We appreciated the opportunity to bring this resolution forward at CFA’s AGM and look forward to the possibilities of growth for our dynamic sector.
