Earlier this week, the Ontario government announced that they have put a pause on consultations regarding updated wetland mapping in eastern Ontario. This announcement came as welcome news to many farm business members. We appreciated the Ontario government for recognizing the complexities of wetland mapping, and for implementing the pause to allow for re-framing to ensure a collaborative local approach.
Members in the affected areas know we brought our concerns over updated wetland mapping to the forefront of the government to ensure consistent policies are implemented across the province. Our top priority continues to be the protection of viable farmland and our farmers’ ability to farm it.
OFA’s work on this issue on behalf of its members will continue in conversations and correspondence with government representatives. We remain committed to finding a workable solution that fits the needs of our members in eastern Ontario and across the province.
