GUELPH, ON [November 24, 2020] – More than 270 delegates from 50 county federations and 18 commodity organizations representing the grassroots voice of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) attended the organization’s 2020 Virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM). The event, which took place on Monday, November 23, featured a jam-packed agenda showcased by addresses from government leaders, Director-at-Large election, bylaw ratification, year in review video, dynamic keynote speaker, resolutions and concluding with acknowledgment of the bursary winners.

OFA board of directors elect Peggy Brekveld as the organization’s new president
GUELPH, ON [November 23, 2020] – The Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) is preparing for a year of growth and opportunities for the agri-food sector with a new leader at the helm. Peggy Brekveld has been elected as OFA’s 32nd President and the third female President in the organization’s history. She will serve in the position for a one-year term.
OFA members vote in favour of amended bylaw to alter executive election process
GUELPH, ON [November 23, 2020] – With a record number of attendees, delegates of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) 2020 Virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) voted in favour of passing OFA bylaw 20-1 that will now allow the Board of Directors the ability to elect its Executive Committee. More than 270 delegates from 50 county federations and 18 commodity groups participated in the event, representing the voice of the organization’s grassroots.
Settlement reached in freedom-of-information request

OFA applauds Ontario government’s move to immediately proclaim sections of Bill 156
GUELPH, ON [September 1, 2020] – The Ontario government took swift action yesterday to better protect the safety and security of the food supply chain across the province with the proclamation of key sections under the Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act, 2020. Beginning September 2, 2020, sections of the Act will be in force to further prevent persons from stopping, obstructing, engaging or interfering with livestock transportation vehicles.

Ontario farms are places of business, where animals are raised, safe and sustainable food is produced, and where a living is made. But they are also homes, where families are raised, and children play. Ontario’s agriculture industry is experiencing increased incidents of trespass, with activists illegally entering property, barns and buildings, breaching biosecurity protocols, and causing significant disruptions to the entire agri-food sector.
