OFA provides comments to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing regarding a proposed approach to update the projection methodology guideline. OFA welcomes this update and applauds the initiative to bring it into alignment with the most recent planning policies. Firstly, OFA advocates for the concept of Distributed Economic Development as investment in rural economies will ultimately improve Ontario’s fiscal outlook, driving our economy forward. OFA recommends the provincial government invest specifically in natural gas, transportation and broadband infrastructure, as well as rural schools and health care. The second over-arching policy position that we would like to provide is that OFA believes the Ontario government should designate all lands in Ontario that are outside of current urban areas as Greenbelt. To provide context, these over-arching policy recommendations include general, population projections (data), housing need projections, employment projections, simpler methodology, rural, agricultural and northern municipalities and other considerations.
