OFA comments on: The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) regarding the Broadband Fund Policy Review.
Overall, OFA is supportive of refocussing the objectives of the CRTC Broadband Fund. Many of the proposed amendments align with the OFA’s interest to see improved access to internet and mobile telecommunications in rural areas.
OFA believes the review of how broadband connectivity funding in Canada is approached is a positive development. As such, we are supportive of refocusing the objectives of the CRTC Broadband Fund. Access to affordable, fast, and reliable telecommunications is vital for Canadians. We consider digital connectivity to be imperative to the continued growth and contribution of our membership to rural areas and the agricultural economy.
OFA seeks clarity and opportunities from the CRTC to increase the transparency of decision-making around allocation of funds, increase timely communication with applicants regarding the status of their applications, and provide greater support to smaller, locally owned cooperatives and non-profit applicants.
