OFA has provided input to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) through their consultation process for the request of a Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO) to maintain lands in the City of Toronto as employment lands to protect the Ontario Food Terminal (OFT).
OFA supports protecting the OFT as a critical component of Ontario’s agri-food network and food security system. The OFT plays a key role in connecting farmers, wholesalers, retailers, and institutions, helping ensure the efficient movement of food products across Ontario and beyond.
OFA urges the MMAH, the City of Toronto, and the OFT work together to protect the terminal through local land use planning tools. Additionally, OFA recommends the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks update the Environmental Land Use Planning Guides to reflect modern compatibility standards.
If a collaborative agreement cannot be achieved, OFA supports the use of an MZO to protect the terminal from incompatible nearby development and ensure its continued operation and future growth.
