OFA supports proposed Planning Act changes that promote higher-density urban development and investment in public transit as a means of supporting densification, helping limit pressure on farmland. However, OFA is opposed to proposed changes that would allow the Minister to make planning decisions (including issuing minister zoning orders [MZOs]) without needing to follow the Provincial Planning Statement. OFA opposes using MZOs in the Greenbelt’s agricultural system or in prime agricultural areas, warning that this could enable non-agricultural development on vital farmland.
