“It’s an honour to be selected by my MPP and Speaker of the legislature Donna Skelly as a recipient of the King Charles III coronation medal,” said Drew. “Giving back to agriculture and my local community has always been important to me and I appreciate the recognition for the small part I’ve played in building up those communities. It takes a number of dedicated leaders to help drive the agricultural sector forward and I’m proud to play a part in the sectors success and sustainability.”

The commemorative medal honours individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities and country, and Spoelstra’s commitment to advancing agriculture has earned him this prestigious distinction.
Drew, who farms in Binbrook, has represented the region of Halton, Hamilton/Wentworth, and Niagara on the OFA board since 2013 before becoming the organization’s President in 2023. He operates a family farm producing crops, milk, beef, and raising horses, and also runs a Pride Seeds dealership. He’s served on the Binbrook Agricultural Society, the Hamilton-Wentworth Soil and Crop Improvement Association, and is passionate about land use, sustainability, and agricultural leadership.
Skelly, the first woman to hold the revered position of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, also represents the same greater Hamilton area that Spoelstra does and acknowledged his, “remarkable service to our beloved Flamborough–Glanbrook community.”
