OFA supports conservation authorities (CAs) focusing their efforts on clearly defined core mandatory programs and services. CAs should continue to address the protection of people and property from natural hazards, primarily flooding. OFA noted that CAs must have adequate funds to deliver cost-share programs that enable individual landowners to implement complimentary on-the-ground projects and actions. OFA proposed farm representation on the Boards of CAs and that all Boards receive training on agriculture’s beneficial role a watershed, including the broad suite of environmental and ecological services provided by agriculture. OFA recommended developing service standards for issuing permits and project approvals to address unnecessary and costly building project delays.
