OFA provided its support for the proposed project “Improved animal transport through automation and integration”. The study aims to streamline management and documentation related to livestock transportation, manage potential diseases, and improve animal transport in Ontario. Equipping livestock trailers with sensors and providing transporters with a Transport App, the project would provide an innovative and comprehensive solution for simplifying data capture and information transfer between transporters, industry, and government. Integrating transport information with sensor data which captures environmental, vehicle, and animal metrics will aid in monitoring and improving animal health and welfare, and capturing and sharing data through the entire supply chain. OFA believes that systems should be in place which ensure safe and nutritious foods remain protected through the value chain, while maintaining and improving the productivity and sustainability of our industry.
