OFA responded to the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks’ request for comments on the proposed actions in preserving and protecting our environment for future generations. OFA recommended the government recognize and support the environmental and ecological goods and services that farmers currently provide. OFA supports the government’s commitment to work with rural communities to find solutions and adopt sensible regulations. OFA noted it is essential for government to recognize the distinct needs of rural Ontario and bring support to address climate change, protect our air, watersheds and land, and help bring resiliency to rural communities. OFA provided recommendations on key proposed actions, including vehicle emissions testing, Water Taking policies, Climate Change mitigation and adaptation, agricultural soil health, depositing excess soils on farms, natural gas infrastructure needs, and plastic waste recycling.
