OFA urges the Ontario government not to exempt new training centres from the Planning Act in prime agricultural areas, emphasizing that Ontario’s farmland is limited, irreplaceable, and essential to an agri-food sector that contributes over $51 billion to the provincial economy and supports 867,000 jobs. While supporting the decision to maintain protections within the Greenbelt, OFA stresses that valuable farmland exists across the province and should not be compromised by development. OFA calls for strategic placement of training centres to avoid losing arable land and to prevent conflicts with farm equipment on rural roads, and endorse the continued requirement for Agricultural Impact Assessments for non-agricultural uses in prime agricultural zones.
