The Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) is Canada’s largest voluntary general farm
organization, representing more than 36,000 family farm businesses across Ontario. These farm
businesses form the backbone of our robust food system and rural communities with the
potential to drive the Ontario economy forward.
The OFA welcomes the proposed change to wolf and coyote hunting regulations in Northern
Ontario. When it comes to livestock predation by wildlife, coyotes kill far more livestock than
wolves. Ending the harvest limit for coyotes will benefit livestock producers across Northern
Ontario, as this change will facilitate expansion of coyote hunting. We further believe that the
elimination of the requirement for specific seals, with reliance on a small game license, will also
benefit Northern Ontario. Lastly, the OFA does not oppose the mandatory reporting of harvested
wolves and coyotes.
