OFA praised the proposed Canada-Ontario Agreement on Great Lakes Water Quality and Ecosystem Health for specifically including agriculture as part of the Great Lakes Community. OFA is pleased this Agreement commits governments to provide the needed implementation resources. OFA recommends ensuring the need to consider equally social, economic, and environmental aspects, as stressed in the Agreement, remains throughout implementation. OFA also supports the recognition that actions taken on agricultural operations must be “consistent with a sustainable and competitive agricultural sector”. OFA also insisted that the agricultural community be directly involved regarding the mentioned review of Ontario’s agricultural drainage management.
