OFA provided comments to the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing regarding the consultation on the 2025 National Construction Codes.
Ontario’s diversity in agricultural production requires unique building forms to house livestock or poultry, to store various crops, to house the machinery used to grow and raise agricultural commodities, and to provide quality worker housing. Each building form has its own distinctive structural requirements.
OFA appreciates the goal of this update to achieve consistent interpretation and application of building requirements across jurisdictions. However, OFA has put forward recommendations to ensure that agricultural operational needs are considered. This includes recommendations on the proposed changes related separation distance, risk calculations, firefighter safety, farm worker accommodation, and harmonization.
