OFA strongly supports actions to build a collaborative strategic approach to managing the health and sustainability of Ontario’s agricultural soil resources and guide the implementation of the Soil Strategy through an Ontario Soil Health Partnership. OFA suggests that more clarity is needed before practical, effective, and measurable policies and programs can be developed to implement the Proposed Actions. OFA opposes requiring implementation of best soil management practices to be eligible for programs such as property tax, crop insurance, or cost-sharing opportunities. OFA suggests the final document should include how improving soil drainage fits into the Strategy.
