OFA submitted comments to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing regarding proposed changes to Ontario’s Building Code services delivery. OFA supports the issuance of technical bulletins and code interpretations. Making guidance information available on the requirements related to agricultural buildings and structures, including housing for seasonal agricultural workers, would be helpful. OFA stated that using an electronic version of the Code in parts of rural Ontario where high speed internet service is not available would be impossible. OFA also raised concern that building permit fees charged to build or expand agricultural buildings vary substantially across municipalities. If building permit fees are intended to cover the costs of permit review, issuance and on-site inspections, then the substantial variance between municipalities is not justified.
