OFA suggested the draft consultation document should acknowledge the presence of agricultural lands and agricultural activities across watersheds, agricultural land’s beneficial contributions to the overall environmental performance of watersheds, and the private ownership of much of the land within watersheds. OFA recommended that the document should acknowledge the different land uses across Ontario and that the rights of private landowners should be respected. OFA further recommended that the document provide a list of the applicable “water-related legislation, plans and agreements”. OFA also stated opposition to a watershed plan mandating the adoption of agricultural best management practices because effective practices vary site to site.
