OFA, Beef Farmers of Ontario and Ontario Sheep Farmers jointly recommended immediate implementation of changes to strengthen the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program. While new program guidelines introduced in January 2019 represented a meaningful step in the right direction, more work is required to ensure that Ontario livestock producers are fairly compensated for losses they suffer from Ontario wildlife. The joint letter outlined recommendations in regards to acceptable evidence; timeliness; preventive measures; reasonable care plans; pedigree premium; and pricing.
