OFA is asking Ontario farmers and those directly involved in Ontario’s agri-food sector to show their support for Bill 156 – Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act, 2019 and its intent to protect farms, our families and the safety of our food chain by addressing the ongoing threat of unwanted trespassing and activists who disrupt our farms and the safety of our food chain.
Ontario farms have increasingly come under threat of unwanted trespassers and activists who are illegally entering property, barns and buildings, seizing private property and threatening the health and safety of the farm, employees, livestock and crops. Some special interest groups have been vocal opponents to Bill 156, suggesting the legislation will somehow hide how Ontario farm families produce food for Ontarians. This is not the case. Ontario farmers follow strict codes of conduct to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all farm animals.
The Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act is good news for Ontario’s agri-food industry and will ensure farm businesses have a legal standing to protect their farm, family and employees, livestock, crops and ultimately the entire food supply.
Voice your support for Bill 156 – the new proposed legislation Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act by sending a letter to your local MPP and other elected officials through OFA’s advocacy website at actnow.ofa.on.ca. You will have the opportunity to preview the letter before it’s sent electronically.
