October 7-13 is Ontario Agriculture Week this year. An appropriate lead up to the Thanksgiving weekend, Ontario Agriculture Week is an opportunity to celebrate agriculture – the abundance of food our farmers produce, the Ontarians our industry employs, the rural communities we support and the economic engine we fuel.
Ontario has the most diverse agri-food production. Ontario farmers proudly grow and produce more than 200 different food commodities across the province and more than 70% of those products stay right here to feed Ontarians.
Let’s take a moment this week to give a nod to the Ontario farm families and everyone in the agriculture and food industry who work tirelessly every day producing safe, healthy and affordable food, raising awareness of the industry, supporting local communities and shaping the policies and regulations that govern agriculture.
No matter where you are in the province, there’s sure to be a celebration to enjoy – with your own family, at a local fall fair, a pumpkin patch, apple orchard or corn maze or a drive through rural Ontario to enjoy the scenery and fall colours.
Celebrate the greatness that is Ontario agriculture this week and be sure to fill your Thanksgiving menu with an array of fresh, local Ontario grown products.
To all our members and their farming families, happy Thanksgiving from OFA.
